Nick Lane
Professor of Evolutionary Biochemistry
Nick Lane is a bioenergeticist whose books (The Vital Question, Transformer, Life Ascending) are among the clearest explanations of where the energy for life comes from. His lab argues that life's origin isn't a chemistry story but an energy story — alkaline hydrothermal vents solve the thermodynamic problem the textbooks don't.
